This Honda 250R-based custom ATV, with Roll Design and Duncan Racing upgrades, is as good as it gets for those seeking a pro-level, race-ready quad. All the work is done, and it’s currently available on eBay.
Few Factory Options
Race quads like this custom Honda 250R appear regularly in ATV racing for a reason. Suzuki ended production of the LT-R450 QuadRacer in 2010. Production of the Honda TRX450R, Kawasaki KFX450R, and Can-Am DS450 stopped in 2015.
That leaves Yamaha’s YFZ450R as the only remaining production racing quad. With so few options, racers often take the custom route.
The platform for this ATV is a Roll Design Lobo XC chassis. Doug Roll, an influential ATV engineering specialist, designed it for cross-country racing. It’s known for its exceptional handling and durability.
At the height of ATV racing popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s, a Roll Design chassis was the racer’s choice for cross-country, desert, and motocross racing. This custom Honda is outfitted with a complete Roll Design Lobo XC chassis, swingarm, A-arms, steering stem, and footpegs.
Big Bore Power
The Honda’s stock 1989 TRX250R bottom end is equipped with new bearings, seals, and a Duncan Racing 305-cc Big Bore Kit. The kit includes a billet head and dome, and integrated power valves. A 35-mm Keihin Air Striker carb improves airflow, increases fuel delivery, and fine-tunes the big-bore engine’s power delivery.
The new induction system works with the Paul Turner Racing Type 6 exhaust pipe and Fat Boy silencer to deliver potent yet rideable engine performance, ideally suited for XC racing. A Hinson clutch basket ensures optimal power-to-the-ground performance.

Terrain-Taming Suspension
This quad’s Roll Design Lobo frame and suspension upgrades are designed to tame the big-bore horsepower and smooth out the bumps from high-speed braking and rough terrain typical in cross-country racing. Front and rear shocks from Custom Axis—a division of Penske Racing Shocks—offer optimal tunability with high- and low-speed compression settings and single rebound adjustment.
OBOR Advent MX tires help absorb smaller bumps. They’re mounted on HiPer Technology beadlock wheels that allow racers to run lower tire pressures while avoiding tire roll-offs.

With almost nothing overlooked—from engine to chassis, suspension to tires—this custom quad only needs a rider to begin racing for trophies.
