The company provides various lighting options, including taillights and fog lights, but we’ll focus now on its headlight offerings.
Reasons to Buy J.W. Speaker Headlights
Whether you own a classic car or truck, a Jeep Wrangler, or a fleet of step vans, you don’t have to settle for old-school incandescent sealed beam headlamps anymore.
Lumens
Many companies list lumens or light output in their advertising. But there are two measures of lumens, actual and theoretical. The theoretical lumen output is what the source should be able to produce in the best, lab-controlled circumstances.
The actual lumen output allows for loss from optics, heat, and electrical variations. Headlights, even from J.W. Speaker, will lose up to 40 percent of the theoretical lumens. So when comparing different headlights, look for a specification showing actual lumen output.
Legal
A headlight on a US road must meet specific standards, namely Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108, which is set by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Many European countries adhere to the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) standards. J. W. Speaker headlights are clearly marked to meet both of these standards.
Don’t use a headlight that is not compliant with DOT standards. In doing so, you risk encountering problems when undergoing a yearly vehicle safety inspection, or being pulled over by a law enforcement officer. Having marked street-legal headlights avoids that issue.
LEDs
There are multiple options when looking at lighting technologies for your headlights. J.W. Speaker specializes in LEDs. These LEDs offer a sturdy, visible bright white. Using LEDs eliminates broken bulbs and fragile light sources that might fail under harsh environments. LEDs might last the life of the vehicle.
Dual Burn
J.W. Speaker headlights often employ dual burn technology. Of course, they offer a low beam setting, but on high beam, J.W. Speaker Dual Burn headlights activate the low beam LEDs while also using a set for the high beams. The low beam LEDs provide a wide closeup lighting scene while simultaneously providing a distant view.
Smart Heat
In some states, ice building up on a headlight is rarely an issue. But with J.W. Speaker’s SmartHeat lens, no matter where you live, you’ll never have to worry about ice build-up again. A grid on the face of the lens automatically senses when ice is building up and warms the lens to eliminate the ice.
JW Speaker Headlight Choices
If you your classic car or truck suffers from dim incandescent headlamps, your prayers are answered.
7-inch round
Jeep owners frequently upgrade to J.W. Speaker headlights. The seven-inch round headlight is a plug-and-play option for many Jeep models. Of course, that seven-inch unit is useful for other vehicles as well. There is a similar seven-inch headlight available for motorcycles.
Rectangles
J.W. Speaker offers LED headlights in 4×6 and 5×7 rectangles. That allows users to swap out their original headlights without fitment issues. Whether you own a modern step van or a 1970s-1980s classic, J.W. Speaker rectangular headlamps are a great way to light up the road safely.
There are J.W. Speaker headlights for many, but not all, applications. If you want to upgrade, check to ensure that a J.W. Speaker assembly is available for your specific vehicle.
Installing JW Speaker Headlights
J.W. Speaker headlights generally come with an H4 harness. This connector fits most Jeeps and other units that use dual-filament halogen bulbs. If your car does not have an H4 connector, various H4 adapters are available, or you could solder in an H4 connector. Check to ensure that the model you are buying is a “plug and play” unit or if you need an adapter.

Whenever you replace a headlight, check the alignment. This is an essential step that should not be overlooked when swapping out a conventional unit. Here’s an easy method to verify that your headlights are correctly aligned.
Anti-Flicker from LEDs
Some vehicles provide electrical power via a pulse width modulation (PWM) process. This allows electronic circuits to work more efficiently. For halogen headlights, pulsing causes no issues. LEDs sense power variation and flicker.
Some J.W. Speaker headlights have built-in circuitry to avoid this issue. Other headlight models offer a harness to circumvent the flickering headlights. While not all vehicles have this power issue, it is helpful that the company has alternatives to fix it.
J.W. Speaker headlights come in a variety of designs and trim. They offer a bright white light from LEDs that provide long life and are easy to install.
