Kawasaki chose not to increase horsepower from the 999-cc parallel-twin engine. Instead, a continuously variable transmission and centrifugal clutch deliver the torque needed to address the weight and rolling resistance of the oversized tires. This combination allows the machine to push through deep, muddy ruts and bottomless water holes with relative ease.
Other mud-specific features include a high-mounted UTV snorkel system that allows the engine and CVT to ingest clean air even in wet conditions. Wide UTV fender flares keep mud and water spray from the deep-lug tires to a minimum.
