I started using YAMABOND #4 in 1970 while working for a local Yamaha dealer and found that HONDABOND #4 was identical while touring Big Dog Motorcycles when the company I was working for was considering fabricating frames for Big Dog. These two sealers were formulated to seal aluminum motorcycle engine crankcases that lack any type of gasketing. I found both branded compounds to be superior to any other sealers when assembling the magnesium Volkswagen cases that mate together with only a sealer. I purchased a tube of Yamabond two weeks ago and was disappointed to find that the formula had been changed to a silicone based sealer which in my opinion produces a substandard, limited lifespan seal. I quickly order this Hondabond with hopes that Honda had not made the same mistake. I was glad to find that Honda hsa retained the same solvent based compound that has been my go to for the past fifty years. I find that the best results are obtained either with a gasket or without if the mating surfaces are completely flat and have been cleaned with a solvent such as lacquer thinner, MEK, or acetone. The best method for removing this sealer is by scraping with a single edged razor blade followed by wiping with a rag wetted with lacquer thinner until all traces have been removed. Removal is a chore but that is what we are looking for, something that adheres.
The ONLY sealant you will ever need for assembling your Honda engine, driveshaft housing or related componets. Easy to use, gives good leakproof seals against oils and coolants.
