Splendid model of a fascinating and famous Japanese battleship
The Nagato was completed in 1920 and was the first warship to mount the big new 16-in. naval gun. Extensively modernized between the wars, the Nagato was the flagship of Admiral Yamamoto when he planned the attack on Pearl Harbor. Aside from its actions during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the ship saw little action during World War II but was the only large Japanese warship to survive past Japan's surrender, still afloat in Yokosuka despite being heavily bombed by US Navy aircraft and stripped of nearly all its smaller caliber guns. With considerable difficulty, the US Navy got it marginally seaworthy and managed to sail (and tow) it to Bikini Atoll in mid-1946, where it sank following both atomic bomb tests; it rests today, upside down, at that Pacific island. Hasegawa's 1/350 scale plastic model is sturdy, well-detailed and fascinating to build, but I would recommend purchasing any of several aftermarket products (wood deck, brass photoetch set, brass or aluminum gun barrels) to really create a museum-quality model suitable for proud display.

Bose Wave Music System III, an exellent radio and CD player

This was a fantastic bargain on eBay, and I am very happy with its performance. It has excellent FM radio reception (and up to 5 presets) without the need for an external FM antenna (it uses its power cord for this purpose), and the flat, compact remote is easy to use and responsive. A User Guide was easily downloaded from Bose's website as a .pdf file. Best of all, for such a compact player, the sound is wonderful, and with enough power to easily fill a large room. There are no tone (e.g., bass or treble) controls, but none are really needed. The player also includes a small pin-type headphone outlet and even a stereo external pin-type input to connect, for example, an mp3 player, both at the player's rear. The system includes a clock with alarm and, when playing a CD, stopping the playback, switching sound sources (e.g., from CD to radio) and back, or shutting down the system, restarting and playing in CD mode will resume playback from where it left off (in the same track, at the same point in that track).

Great performance, expandable storage, very easy to use.

The device I purchased was the 8BG player, but it has an expansion slot for a micro SD card, and I bought a 16 GB one at Radio Shack and installed it, producing a player that can store a whopping 24 GB of MP3 music. That is hundreds of hours. Like the previous Sansa player I owned, the only downside to this one is the way the music is categorized or stored for retrieval; I load primarily classical music from my very large CD library and specific music selections are listed often arbitrarily in alphabetical order -- by composer, by performer (ensemble or conductor), or by the title of the work, so scrolling through the list -- and I have loaded over 1000 music selections (with about 10GB of space remaining), from 2 minutes to 45 minutes each)-- can be tedious and any given piece of music can pop up unexpectedly, though once you recognize it you can return to it and find it in the same order. This player came with no instruction manual but it is very easy to use. The short recharger cable (connecting the device to a USB port) did not recharge well from my laptop, but it does from my desktop PC and I have an AC transformer into which it plugs and recharges very quickly. I can load and delete selections very easily from my PC, which runs on Windows 7, and recognizes the Sansa player as another storage device. One other feature is the equalizer -- you can set it to jazz, rock, neutral or classical. Curiously, my classical selections sound best in rock mode, which may emphasize the base and treble that can often be attenuated in MP3 files. All in all, for such a small music player, this Sansa works extremely well.
